Step1 Create an intention
The first step is to create an intention. You will have to examine your wellness goals and imagine how to have fun with your own created program.
At this step you can hire a music therapist, talk to a friend who happens to know the music you like, or like most of us start listening to the free music streaming platforms. There are many! To name a few Spotify, You tube, Amazon music , Soundcloud are good options. Or you may choose to subscribe to your favorite platform. At a later date you can transfer your playlist across platforms with an app (Freeyourmusic.com) or in your own library on a device.
Step 2 The choice of music
We walk on 2 legs but we are very comfortable with a four beat rhythm like the four legged animals ( if you walk with a dog or a horse it is obvious...). This is the rhythm of the hustle, meringue, rumba...Have fun.
Choosing dancing music will already choose the character, mood and tempo of the music. The waltz is for me associated with the Bastille day of the French revolution but it may be associated with an Elvis song for some or with a beautiful Chopin waltz for another.
Choosing the country of origin or the musical tradition you prefer may set the mood and your connection to a land and its people you care about. For example the beautiful traditional joyful Andean flute will transport you even if it is embedded in more modern cumbia rhythms. Or the traditional Japanese flute may just resonate profoundly even if you never have been to Japan.
Choosing the element associated with the music may be very healing if used intentionally such as water, air, earth. Music from any islands (Cap Verde, Korea, Jamaica) that sings the love of the land may just flow right through you.
If the trails do not interest you and you prefer travelling with your imagination, I suggest meditation binaural sounds (from sacredacoustic.com for example). It is very very healthy.
If none of these suggestions resonate with you, most platforms will analyze your music use and create a "liked" music playlist. This is a good starting point.
